Kwekwe converts Garandichauya Beerhall to Corona Virus Screening Centre

1450 21 people are placed under surveillance in the Midlands mining town


The City of Kwekwe has converted the Garandichauya beerhall in Mbizo to a screening facility for the novel COVID-19 (Corona Virus), midlandsnews has learnt.

The revelations were made by Kwekwe Mayor, Councillor Angeline Kasipo while addressing journalist at the Civic Centre Wednesday morning.

“We have turned Garandichauya beerhall into a screening centre using Devolution funds from the government since the city does not have Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH). The amount budgeted for the revamping the screening facility amounts to ZWL 1.8 million, Clr Kasipo told journalists.

Kwekwe has since placed 21 people under surveillance after they showed signs of flu-like ailments. According to council authorities, the majority of those placed under surveillance are from Chinese-run mines in Kwekwe.

Upon completion the screening facility will be 27-bedded.
