Veteran sports caster Steve Vickers has commended the Gweru Sports Club authorities for their efforts in the resuscitation of the facility that had been dilapidatind for years.
Vickers said it was impressive that a facility that was nearly auctioned last has been given a new look.
“Great work going on at Gweru Sports Club – last year it was set to be closed and sold to housing developers” he said
Last year Simbarashe Chiminya of StarFM sport highlighted the notice of auction of the Gweru Sports Club that was being proposed by the city of Gweru.
According to Vickers the pressure of the media attention to the developments at Gweru Sports Club led to the turnaround.
“Simba Chiminya highlighted this in stories on StarfmZimbabwe leading to a big turnaround” said Vickers.
The moribund facility is being facelifted by the city of Gweru council.
They set up vision 2024 as their projected target for renovations completion.
“These are visual images of our vision 2024 ,we are working towards achieving that goal before 2024”
Central Soccer League side Sheasham will be hosting its home games at the Gweru Sports Club for 2020 season.
The facility is also being touted to host regional squash tournament.
