Four Chinese nationals are reportedly to be among the six people who are feared dead after a vehicle they were travelling in was swept away while trying to cross a flooded Gweru River bridge on Sunday morning.
According to eyewitnesses the vehicle a Toyota 4×4 twincab was towing a mining compressor.
In a statement secretary for Information Nick Mangawana said:
“This morning a double cab vehicle with unknown number of passengers was washed away by floods trying to cross submerged Gweru River Bridge on the Matobo Road. Sub Aqua unit on its way to for retrieval efforts.
Let’s be careful and avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges and rivers.”
Most of the major dams in the Midlands capital are reportedly full others already spilling as the country continue to receive heavy rains.
