Ex Midlands Resident Minister Jason Machaya back in court on fresh corruption charges



Jason Machaya a former Resident Minister of Midlands Province, Thursday appeared at the Gweru Magistrate Courts with six others, facing allegations of criminal abuse of office, midlandsnews can report.

Machaya is being jointly charged together with former Midlands Province Administrator, Cecilia Chitiyo,
Matilda Manhando, Shephered Marweyi, Sifelani Moyo, Ethel Mlalazi and Everest Nyamadzawo.

The court heard that Machaya, Chitiyo and five others allegedly connived to unlawfully allocate state land in Gokwe.

The seven will be back in court on May 14.

Machaya is currently serving a 4 year jail term at Hwahwa Prison after being found guilty of similar charges.

The former Resident Minister, together with Midlands Provincial Physical Planning officer, Chibhururu Chisayinyerwa were found guilty of criminal abuse of office involving the sale of State land at Gokwe Centre.

Machaya and Chibururu were accused of allocating 192 stands the Apostolic Christian Church of Zimbabwe when they did not have the authority to allocate the same.

The duo was also accused of further allocating 17 799 residential and commercial stands to land developers and in-return Machaya and his accomplice received 1791 stands as a kickback.
