Zvishavane Town Secretary gets $30 000 bail for corruption



ZVISHAVANE – Three senior managers at Zvishavane Town Council including town secretary Tinoda Mukutu have been arrested and they appeared in court yesterday facing charges of criminal abuse of office.

Mukutu, housing director Nhlanhla Ngwenya and Engineer Dominic Mapwashike were each granted $30 000 bail and remanded to June 28, 2021 by Zvishavane Magistrate Archie Wochiunga

They were ordered to reside at their given addresses, not to interfere with witnesses, to report to Zvishavane CID every fortnight and to surrender their travel documents.
It is the State case that the trio returned a tender back to a company that had lost it after it failed to do the job the first time. They three are being charged with flouting tender procedures. The Mirror could not establish the name of the company involved.

In 2016 the council entered into a partnership with a construction company for the servicing of 27 CBD stands and the job had a two-year timeframe which elapsed before the work was done.

This saw the contract being terminated.
In 2019 the trio connived and contrary to and inconsistent with their duties, they trio gave the same construction company the go ahead to continue with the work. They did not go back to tender.
