Just In: Mberengwa road accident claims one, fourteen escape with various injuries

A Mberengwa man who was driving a pick up truck loaded with fifteen passengers is reportedly to have lost control of the vehicle before it overturned killing one person while fourteen passengers are said to be suffering from various injuries, midlandsnews has learnt.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the occurrence which he said took place on 22 September 2022 at around 2200 hours along an unnamed road in Vanguard, Mberengwa.

“Circumstances are that Pritchard Dziva aged 37 of Northwood Mberengwa was driving a white Nissan Patrol pickup registration number AFE 4296 along Vanguard road with fifteen passengers on board.

“About 200 metres from Mberengwa-Yorks road, the driver lost control of the motor vehicle. The vehicle swerved off to the left of the road, overturned and landed on its wheels. As a result of the accident Dumbu Bornface aged 52, of Northwood Mberengwa sustained serious head injuries and died upon admission at Mberengwa District Hospital”, said Mahoko.

It is reported that ten other passengers were treated and discharged while four were transferred to United Bulawayo Hospital.

Police are appealing to members of the public to exercise maximum caution and adhere to all road traffic regulations when driving.

“There is an adage which says “Speed thrills but kills”, said Mahoko.
