OWEN MATAVA in Kwekwe
ZanuPF Midlands says it will protect thousands of vendors allegedly against some corrupt ZRP, Gweru and Kwekwe City security details who are being accused of demanding protection fees from traders said to be doing business at illegal vending points in the said two cities, midlandsnews can report.
Ex Zanu-PF provincial Chairman, Eng Daniel Mackenzie Ncube and former State Security Miniter, Owen “Mudha” Ncube addressed the vendors today at the Museum Hall in Kwekwe.
General Traders from Gweru and Kwekwe are said to have approached Zanu-PF to seek for protection cover against the alleged corrupt police and municipal officers.
Running battles between law enforcement agents and vendors particularly those who would have failed to offer ‘daily’ bribes are said to be the order of the day in Gweru and Kwekwe.
“Let us dialogue. We call upon both police and MDC T councils in Gweru and Kwekwe to put to a stop to these running battles against vendors”, said Owen “Muda” Ncube while addressing the vendors adding vendors should be allowed to trade while councils prepare for some legal points to accommodate more traders.
Both ZRP and Kwekwe councils could not immediately comment over the said allegations.
