Reports say, the two men killed were brothers.
The accident comes as authorities continue in search of bodies of trapped illegal artisanal gold miners at Globe and Phoenix Mine in the same town.
Kwekwe Civil Protection Unit Chairperson Fortune Mupungu said searching for trapped bodies at Globe and Phoenix mine is still ongoing following the collapse of boulders in one of the shafts last Wednesday.
“Search operations are still on at Globe and Phoenix mine since there are assumptions that more bodies might have been trapped underground”, said Mupungu
Last week, the Minister of State for Midlands Province, Senator Larry Mavhima urged mine operators to adhere to safety procedures to avoid accidents and loss of lives.
Midlands Province is located in the central part of Zimbabwe and includes the following towns Gweru (the provincial capital), Kwekwe, Shurugwi, Zvishavane, Mberengwa and Mvuma which are predominantly mining towns, and includes Gokwe North and Gokwe South Districts which are also surrounded by mining activities
