GWERU- MDC Alliance national organizing secretary, Amos Chibaya has sensationally claimed that virtually all inmates at Whawha Maximum Prison in Gweru are in support of the opposition MDC Alliance and its youthful leader, Nelson Chamisa.
Chibaya, who was initially docked at the Midlands-based maximum prison on charges of trying to subvert a constitutionally elected government through an alleged incitement of violence during the arguably successful three-day mass stayaway and sporadic labor-backed protests, said during his stay at Whawha the inmates confided to him that they were backing Chamisa and his party.
“When I was jailed last month, I spent most of my time with the inmates who unreservedly support President Chamisa and their message remained ‘Chamisa Chete Chete’. The inmates at Whawha are also waiting for change and I assured them that we are going to soldier on until we get the change which they all need”, said Chibaya.
The motor-mouth Mkoba MP was one of the four MDC Alliance legislators who spent the better part of January and early February 2019 wallowing in remand prison as the state viciously clamped down on various MDC elected officials and oppositional activists.
Other MDC Alliance MPs who were also embroiled in legal challenges emanating from the three-day mass stayaway and protests codenamed National Shutdown include Mbizo lawmaker Settlement Chikwinya, Redcliff MP Lloyd Mukapiko and Chiwundura parliamentarian Livingstone Chimina.
