KWEKWE– High-riding second-tier side, Hardrock FC, owned by prominent Kwekwe businessman Shepherd ‘Magodora’ Chahwanda, are confident that they will gain promotion into the relatively competitive Division 1 Central Soccer League, come year-end.
Currently perched on second position- three points shy of pacesetters and army side Tongogara FC- the ambitious Kwekwe-based side has also said that their target is to gain promotion into the elite Castle Lager Premier Soccer League by 2021 and bring premiership football back to the Midlands mining town of Kwekwe.
“We are very clear about what we want and our mission is to end the season at the apex so that we qualify. We have the quality and our boys are raring to go”, said nomadic gaffer Kenneth Chembe.
“Our team is one of the well-resourced sides in Division 2 and our players are greatly motivated. The good thing is that the team CEO (Magodora) is so passionate about the game and he has urged us to concentrate with one Match Day at a time”, he said.
According to Team Manager Chamunorwa Mugandani, the team will become the first team to bring Premiership action to Kwekwe since the demise of Lancashire Steel, close to a decade ago.
“Inasmuch as it is too early to think about promotion, our players are confident of out-competing their rivals. This is, without any shroud of doubt, an achievable feat”.
His sentiments are apparently in harmony with the team’s vice captain and former Sundowns star Ackim Dzimbiri.
“Our coaches and the entire technical staff have managed to mantain high spirits in the dressing room. We are one, happy family and the team continues to improve with each game”, Dzimbiri echoed.
