KKWEKWE-A notorious Zanu PF youth, Tichaona Isaiah Chacha (34) was on Monday slapped with a four and a half year jail sentence after he was convicted of five different counts of assault and robbery.

The now incarcerated Chacha was found guilty of assaulting Asif Kurawley, managing director of Puma Service Station after a fuel attendant had told him and the second accused, Simbarashe Maphenduka who is reportedly still at large, that fuel was there for those with coupons only. Chacha is said to have started arguing with the attendant, prompting Kurawley to intervene.

Subsequently, Chacha slapped him twice on the face, resulting in Kurawley sustaining a swollen face.

Chacha is, on yet another criminal account, said to have arrived at T.M supermarket in the company of three unknown accomplices and accused Fanuel Kubvoruno of dealing in foreign currency.

He reportedly tried to snatch a bag from Kubvoruno’s friend, but failed. He then turned to Kubvoruno, assaulted him with clenched fists resulting in the former sustaining a swollen face and a wounded thump.

He was also accused of found guilty of assaulting Tungamirai Mabika of Rutendo with iron bars and clenched fists, for no apparent reason. Chacha reportedly arrived at Poto Logistics Garage in the company of other three unknown men wielding iron bars, sjamboks and machetes and started assaulting Mabika, smashing his Honda Fit’s headlights and wind screen before taking him to Zanu PF party office in the boot of their car after having taken $ZWL 8 000-00 from him.

Together with Maphenduka on another account, Chacha reportedly arrived at Rockodox service station where Kudakwashe Mafukidze was. They pretended as if they wanted to exchange their USD$20 for $ZWL 64. They told Mafukidze to get into the car and Chacha produced a stun gun and electrocuted Mafukidze.

It is reported that they drove towards the Zanu PF party office, dropped him in town after robbing him of his cash amounting to Botswana P4 05-00, ZAR23 000-00, US$2 800-00, and ZWL$275-00.

Chacha is also said to have robbed Abbie Sibanda at OK supermarket taking $1 000-00 bond notes, ZAR R650-00, Botswana P5 120-00 and USD750-00. It is reported the accused arrived in the company of three unknown accomplices in a black Honda CRV at OK where Sibanda was seated in a car with her friends. Chacha then told Sibanda and her other colleagues in the car to hand over the money they had and after she refused, Chacha reportedly snatched a plastic bag containing various amounts of money from Sibanda.

12 months from the 4½-year custodial sentence were suspended on condition that Chacha defrays debts owed to the complainants who he robbed. On the other hand, three more months were added from the three months initially suspended from a 2018 criminal count.
