KWEKWE– High-riding ZIFA Central Soccer League side Dendairy FC’s unbeaten run continued over the Easter holidays after the well-resourced dairy side collected four points out of a possible six following their goalless draw away to Black Eagles on Good Friday before edging struggling Kwekwe United 1-0 in an enterprising derby played at Mbizo Stadium on Easter Monday.

The Solomon Kaseke-coached outfit, which is yet to concede a goal, has thus far played four matches- winning two and drawing the other two is currently perched on second position in the 18-team log standings. The Kwekwe side is only a point shy of trailblazing Sheasham FC who are on 9 points with a game in hand. Like Dendairy, Sheasham who have won all their three matches in as many games, are yet to concede a goal.

On Monday, a second-half solitary strike from seasoned midfield supremo Simba Makasvi was all the dairy producers needed to ensure their set of three points against underperforming Kwekwe United. Meanwhile, the Dendairy gaffer has underplayed chances of winning the championship this season.

“I am happy with the performance of our guys but, since it is our first time to be in Division 1, we don’t want to promise you the sky (championship) after only a few games. The guys need experience and a lot of motivation to climb up to the top”, Kaseke who has also coached the Warriors Under 23 side, Shabanie FC and Lancashire amongst many other premiership sides, told midlandsnews.

Kaseke’s understudy at Dendairy is Austin ‘Papa’ Mutimba and their side has been banking on a solid defense while football critics have say the team lacks teeth upfront.

In other matches played on Easter Monday, Real BVM and MSU drew 1-all while Vumbachikwe got the better of seventh-placed Ivan Hoe who they edged 1-0. Central Soccer League returnees Shabanie Mine were forced to a 1-1 draw at Filabusi whilst ZPC Munyati got the better of Gokwe North, beating the cotton producers by 2-0.

Sheasham’s fairy tale continued with a 2-0 drubbing of Blanket Mine whilst ZRP Gweru and Black Eagles played a goalless draw. FC Platinum U19 and Betbridge-based Dulibadzimu also drew nill-all in Zvishavane whilst The Venue FC outcompeted Whawha who they beat 2-nil.
